Livia Kohn Speaks About “Women and Daoism”

The lecture is free and open to the public on Wednesday, March 25 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Dauer Hall 219. Livia Kohn is one of the foremost experts on Daoism and a professor emeritus of religious studies at Boston University. She is the author and editor of numerous books, including Daoism Handbook, Monastic Life in Medieval Daoism, The Taoist Experience, Chinese Healing Exercises, Daoist Body Cultivation, Taoist Meditation and Longevity Techniques, Daoism and Chinese Culture, Daoist Mystical Philosophy, Early Chinese Mysticism, and Laughing at the Tao.

Professor Norman Wirzba Speaks About "The Grace of Good Food"

Research Professor of Theology, Ecology and Rural Life, Norman Wirzba of Duke University Divinity School, will give a talk on Friday, February 27 in Anderson 117 on "The Grace of Good Food." Professor Wirzba is the editor of The Essential Agrarian Reader and The Art of the Commonplace: The Agrarian Essays of Wendell Berry, and the author of The Paradise of God: Renewing Religion in an Ecological Age, among other books. He will also give a workshop at 10:30 the same day. February 26th

Students Create First Undergraduate Religions Society

Undergraduate students from the department and Dr. Kessler recently started the first ever Undergraduate Religious Studies group, The Society of Academic Religions or S.O.A.R.S. The society was created to foster academic religious studies here at UF and act as a resource for its students, and those interested in the broad topics within religion.

The Society of Academic Religious Studies meets bi-weekly on Thursdays at 7 PM in Anderson 117. Come check it out and get involved! October 14th

Religion Undergrad does Project in Post-Conflict Belfast

This summer, religion student Alex Riehm traveled to Belfast, Northern Ireland through the University Scholars Program to research community relations organizations between the divided Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods. Ten years after the Good Friday Accord, Alex examined the status of peace on the ground and the role of religion (once considered to be divisive) in cultivating reconciliation. February 12th
